Dr. Aaron “Pete” Geter Jr. is an educator, coach, administrator, mentor, and championship leader whose professional and athletic journeys have remained closely connected throughout his life. Over a 37-year career in education, he served in multiple leadership roles, including classroom teacher, athletic director, football coach, head basketball coach, head track coach, principal, and superintendent.

His coaching career is marked by an exceptional record of achievement. Dr. Geter guided teams to 10 state basketball championships, 13 Final Four appearances, 14 regional championships, 20 consecutive state tournament appearances, and 72 state tournament victories across 20 years, without losing a state championship game.

His athletic journey began long before he became a coach. At Wheeler County High School, he was a four-year letterman in basketball, track, and baseball and played football through his sophomore year. He earned all-state recognition in basketball for three consecutive years and later became a four-year letterman at Mercer University, where he was part of the 1985 Transamerica Athletic Conference Championship team.

Dr. Geter’s legacy has also been recognized through induction into three athletic halls of fame: the Mercer University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013, the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2019, and the Georgia Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2024.
